I joined MedicAlert mainly because I have a Medical Condition called Myasthenia Gravis. It is a rare condition. There are many symptoms that can be mistaken for everyday situation such as being drunk. Sometimes I become dis-orientated, my speech may slur and I am unsteady on my feet. Before being diagnosed a lot of my friends thought I was drunk when they saw me trying to cross a road. The condition prevents the use of voluntary muscles. The immune system see the messages from my brain to the muscles as a foreign body and it prevents them getting through. To prevent this happening my immune system has been turned off.

Allergies

I have been a Medic Alert member for almost 20 years after I had a severe allergic reaction to penicillin. About 10 years ago my ID bracelet broke and I have been carrying it around in my purse thinking that I would get round to fixing it one day.
